The speed with which we can switch between radically different use cases for our general computing interfaces can be harmful to purposeful, focused work. It's simply too easy to act on an impulsive distraction. We aren't equipped with the tools to create focused environments.
"General purpose" computers are too general purpose. We need to be able to craft our computers for specific purposes, customize our "enabling environment."
Ideas:
Those micro-moments of moving around the workshop are actually valuable. They provide natural pauses without really breaking flow. They engage our bodies beyond our minds, "get the blood flowing", etc.
