Captures dynamics not described by traditional institutional theory. Institutional theory operates on "roles" and "rules." Certain dynamics are not easy to describe using those primitives. This is a lens, but it becomes a normative/prescriptive lens when it's our only lens.
Extitutional theory proposes the core primitives are "identity" and "relationship." These inform certain large-scale dynamics.
It's possible that extitutional dynamics can be described or modeled using physics analogies, something like orbital dynamics-gravitational pulls between bodies, orbits, etc.
